From the moment we create a LinkedIn account and start seeing posts about how X,Y,Z have worked for a starting salary of 3 LPA and after 6 months of solid work and grit landed a job that pays 80LPA we become a part of a pressure cycle. Sometimes we may realise it and choose to ignore it and continue with our routines while at other times we may feel pressurised to one up our friends , colleagues and prove ourselves to others. It is irrefutable that we all may have felt this one time or another from within our family , friend circles etc. and each of us may have dealt with it in a different way. Some people will be weighed down by the idea that our colleagues and friends have done better than us and others would decide to buckle up for the rat race.

It is important to realise that not all ideas or choices are good, not all good ideas succeed and not everyone who succeeds had it all planned out. Sometimes a bad idea could have succeed because of a stroke of good luck while a good idea might not been recognised. Realising that not all of us live under the same circumstances and we have definitely not treaded the same path is essential to keep your goals realistic and attainable.

Goals can be destructive if the sole reason why you want to achieve them is to prove your worth to others and not to improve yourself. I am not telling you that you should not work hard rather you should be mindful of the amount of pressure you subject yourself to and ensure that it doesn’t break you .Work for what you want you want to achieve, make your goals your life’s purpose and slowly work towards them. Ensure that you are setting realistic, small time goals that enable you to understand your own shortcomings and then set bigger goals.[This piece of advice was given to me by someone and I am really thankful for it]

Through all this remember that every scar in your body makes you stronger and reminds you of how you courageously stood up to all that life has thrown at you. We are all diverse beings and having an average score or average skills will never hurt as much as the trauma caused by self doubt. I wish to end the article with my quote ‘Being average is not a crime’.
